I started Micro.blog at a time when I blogged infrequently, as I was much more interested in tinkering with HTML and CSS. However, I've only recently migrated to Substack, as I had plans to take newsletter publication more seriously and on a more consistent basis.
Frankly, I find Micro.blog's community more wholesome than anywhere else I could find online. That alone might be worth the $5/month subscription for many people.
Thanks for this post. I'm curious what you're using these days, Jotham? Have you ever thought about putting a post together with a link comparing the look of all the various ones you've tried? Or just doing a comparison table of all their strengths/limitations? Might be very useful for others considering where to do their publishing.
Did you stay with Micro.blog?
Unfortunately, I didn't...

Hi Jeremy,
To be honest, it has been a journey since I've last written this piece. I've now migrated most of my writing to an astro.build site at jothamlim.com
But what's most likely going to happen is that I'll use Astro as a primary landing page, and substack for most written stuff.
